This part of the QA process for simulation-based education consists of faculty development, technical support, facilities and resources.
1. Faculty Development
The quality of the faculty is key to delivering a quality Simulation-Based Education event. There are many face to face programmes throughout Scotland or varying lengths but they all are linked to the National Outcomes Framework.
A three-tiered approach was developed to identify key high level improvement outcomes
- Tier 1 - practitioner educators of SBE
- Tier 2 - leaders of SBE
- Tier 3 - researchers of SBE
Faculty Development for Simulation - A National Outcomes Framework: download [DOCX] or open pdf [PDF] version . This outcome framework has been matched with NMC, AoME, ASPiH and GMC frameworks.
2. Technical Support
The quality of technical support is also key to the delivery of a quality Simulation-Based Education event.
- A modified Delphi approach is being used to identify nationally agreed capabilities for all Simulation Technicians (available download in development)
3. Facilities
- A national database of facilities and their capabilities in terms of specialist equipment has been developed
- A mobile skills unit (MSU) with the same access to video debriefing and standard simulators and part task trainers is operational
4. Resources
- A generic approach to online development of clinical skills has been agreed and utilised in the development of evidence based online resources CSMEN online resources
