Making the right thing the easy thing to do for staff is a key quality ambition in NHSScotland's Quality Healthcare Framework. This encapsulates the purpose and strength of a Human Factors approach to staff development and care delivery.

Many high-reliability organisations invest in a systematic approach to Human Factors education and use Human Factors science to create safer systems and environments, making it easier to do the right thing.

Human Factors science in clinical practice is concerned with the way we think and interact with colleagues, team members, equipment and the environment and the impact of these on our decision-making and actions.

The Human Factors for Quality Healthcare:The Way Ahead for Scotland Conference held on 19th March 2014 at the Beardmore Conference Centre, Clydebank aimed to begin to build a consensus across health boards about the role of Human Factors as a key enabler to deliver Scottish Government quality ambitions.
