This multi-professional resource has been written to support a 2-3 hour teaching session on IO needles and is for use by clinicians with a responsibility for teaching this skill.
The resource covers a brief history of IO cannulation followed by some theoretical knowledge. It discusses the best places to cannulate and covers both manual and semi-automatic systems.
We have also developed a template for a workshop on both Manual and Semi-Automatic techniques. The facilitators handbook can be downloaded from the Related Information box.
