Diversity in clinical skills Workshop Edinburgh
Friday, November 25, 2011
Twenty people attended the Diversity workshop at Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary organised by CS MEN Regional Champion Janet Skinner and Bryan Allan, Simulated Patient Coordinator at the medical school. There was a good mix of educators from QMU, Napier and Edinburgh University and healthcare practitioners from NHS Lothian. The event consisted of five short sessions, some held 'in the round' and others in small groups of four to five. Janet, Bryan and their team had organised scenarios involving 'students' and 'patients', some with role play, others for discussion, around issues about ethnic diversity; physical impairment; gender transitioning; sexual health issues and religious beliefs. Debate was lively and opinions were often quite diverse themselves; while a presentation led through the short but stimulating afternoon.
